Any suggestion for wine pairing with Greek food?

Going to a Greek restaurant this week with several chefs.
I was assigned the wine.

Any suggestions?

I did a quick search and see Zins are one recommendation.

Oh - I have no Greek wine in my cellar.

Thanks

Southern French, Central Italian or unwooded Spanish reds would all do well. You need spice and acidity and NOT excessive weight.

Agree with Southern France. Bandol Rose, CdP - those would be my top choices.

+1 for Southern France. We eat Greek foods (esp. salads and various dips) at home frequently, but for purposes of pairing, it helps to think of the food as “Mediterranean” instead of specifically Greek. Hell, you could pair a wine from the Bekaa Valley with a number of Greek dishes because they’re similar to Lebanese counterparts.

Be “authentic”. Just do shots of Ouzo. That’s what my Greek family did.

Avoid greek wine

Seriously, do you know what you will be having? There are so many dishes that it’s hard to generalize. I wouldn’t drink the same wine with grilled lamb & herbs or with moussaka or with vine leaves, etc.

a Rioja sounds good

Buy some Greek wine! Greek whites are wonderful, and it’s a crime to eat good Greek food without a wonderfully acidic and minerally Assyrtiko (my favorite are from Santorini, especially Sigalas and Gaia) or floral Moschofilero.

In a pinch, I guess white and red Italian wines with good acidity are a decent substitute.

Thanks all.
I have lots of southern french wines.
I rummage through my CT inventory and take several.

PLCB have the following 2 Greek wines available:

BOUTARI KRETIKOS RED 06
GAIA NOTIOS RED AGIORGITIKO 07

I may pick one up just to have a “local” wine.
