Scotch and food pairing at Le Petit Cep in Thoiry, France. The event was organized by Ludwig Cordelier from the Ludwino wine store in Thoiry.
First pairing:
Foie gras and McPink
Ruby port cask finish. Floral and elegant. Smooth and on restraint. Nicely balanced. Plenty of fruit. Worked well with the foie gras au torchon.
Second pairing:
Seared scallops and Knockdhu 12 years old
White Beaune 1er Cru cask finish. Floral and complex on the nose. Easy first palate, fatty and round, a little kick on the backend and a super long finish on white florals, peaches and spices. Glorious Scotch, bad pairing. The ginger and coconut milk didn’t work with this.
Third pairing:
Cod and Teaninich 8 years old
Ruby Port finish. Slightly peaty, good fruit, slight pepper, less presence than I expected but very good and easy to drink. The pairing was also a fail, overwhelming the cod and cream sauce.
Fourth pairing:
Chocolate mousse cake, pear sherbet and McPeat 10 years old, Seanna Mheallan
Amazing pairing and very fine Scotch. Smoky, peaty, plenty of texture and long saline and fatty finish. Wonderful with the chocolate mousse cake. Great backstory on this Scotch that is a hommage to the master blender’s mother.
