Antica terra summer offering

Got the following offer

2021 Aequorin chardonnay - $175
2021 Antikythera pinot noir - $210

Feels steep compared to other Oregon Chardonnays and Pinots I buy. Would love to get some feedback.

I have enjoyed these wines over the years, but stopped buying 8-10 years ago. I thought sub-$100 was a good price point then. But I have a full cellar and am trying to be more judicious with what I buy these days.

I haven’t had this vintage, but I have tried a few other wines. I think they are excellent, distinctive, even singular. Because of that, I can understand how the prices are justifiable to some people. They aren’t to me, but personally, if I’m spending that kind of money (which is not common), I’m doing it in Burgundy.

Surprised to see they’re way more than aged Marcassin off the list.

They’re great wines, and I just had the chance to taste at Antica Terra (none of the ‘21s though). They are expensive wines, for sure. Very labor intensive winemaking practices compared to some others, so that’s a part of it. At the same time, there are so many other producers in the region making spectacular wines at half the price.

Definitely on the pricier end for Oregon, but with the way pricing has been moving in the region, I suspect it won’t be long before a few other producers are knocking on the door of these prices! Maggie Harrison has been a bit of a leader in the region for a while, and rightly so–I think some of her wines really do stand out in terms of distinctiveness of style/site expression. There’s a real balance of fruit, savory character, weight and finesse that define her wines (unlike some of the cherry/rose water lighter pinots that you can find in Oregon.) I’ve been a big fan for a while now and really respect what she’s been doing to define her style in the region. As for pricing, I suspect she’s been one of the more successful OR producers when it comes to developing her ‘brand’ in the somm and broader wine community domestically (and even abroad). I think this is what creates some of her pricing power. If you’re a fan of OR wines, she’s one of the benchmarks, I think. Worth trying (and definitely visiting, if you ever make the trip to Oregon.) Her hospitality program is pretty world class.

I totally agree on the hospitality program. Super unique and a great all around experience. Just the idea of tasting her wines alongside old world inspirations is really fun and cool, and it’s almost curious that others haven’t copied the idea. The food is incredible too.

I was disappointed not to get the rose allocation. It is pricey, but special.

Received an email that was sent to the waitlist (me) with the below.

Offer includes:
2021 Antica Terra pinot noir Botanica 1 bottle (750mL)
2014 Lillian syrah 1 bottle (750mL)
2020 the Glories no.04 1 bottle (750mL)
$435.00 three bottle collection with $65 shipping to NJ and $35 tax all said and done. On the fence and leaning towards passing because of that shipping but have a week to think it through. Nice gesture though!

Thank you once again for your interest in Antica Terra, Lillian, and the Glories. We have asked you to be patient as we work to find a place in our active memberships for you, and we are very grateful that you are willing to be so. While that day has not yet come, we do have a happy surprise to slake your thirst until we can formally welcome you.

Our waitlist for membership has recently become longer than we are comfortable with. Patience only stretches so far, and we want to share a lower-case yes today, as a bridge to that forever YES we both anticipate. To that end, we have decided to rob what little exists in our library to offer you a special selection of bottles; one each from our three wine projects.

This collection will be available through Thursday, August 10th; beyond that date the wines will be offered to the next, very patient people on the waiting list. All orders placed will ship in late autumn of this year, with timing determined by the weather in your state.

While we are still only able to welcome a limited number of new members on an ongoing basis, we will ensure participants in this offering will be given priority access to future openings in our membership.

If anyone is interested in joining the allocation, you get to jump the line if you visit to taste, and purchase a few wines. I tasted with them prior to the release of the 2018 vintage and it only took 3 months for me to get placed on their allocation.

I got this offer as well and trying to decide if it’s worth it. Seems expensive, but I’m not sure how to think about their pricing. Any idea how these bottles are priced individually?

Are they winning the war?

I believe the Botanica was ~$150, Lillian was ~$100, and the Glories was ~160 or so based off CT and some research. Someone feel free to correct me if pricing seems mistaken. I felt the pricing of the wines was fair, but shipping and my interest in solely the Botanica ultimately led to a pass from me.

Yes, checking from what I ordered: Ceres and Botanica were $150, Antikythera was $210.

They actually hosted a virtual tasting for us which was a lot of fun. They sent us the bottles and walked us through each wine for a party of 6. I was an active member following also and got to taste their portfolio. Recommend this approach if available.

what is up after-market pricing of these wines? I don’t have WS Pro, but on regular WS version only one offering of Antikythera for $900? Botanica average price $700?

Current Pricing per bottle for the most recent 2023 offerings:

2021 Antikythera Pinot $210
2021 Aequorin Chardonnay $150
2022 Angelical Rose $150
2021 Botanica Pinot $150
2021 Ceras Pinot $150
2021 Aurata Chardonnay $150

Aurata, Ceras, and Botanica were offered in January. Angelical, Aequorin, and Antikythera were offered in June.

If you set WS alerts it’s pretty easy to source this wine for ~ $250 or less. Cask Cartel prices all of their wines out of the stratosphere. I’m convinced nobody actually buys wine from them and it’s just a fake WS account designed to inflate prices.

Latest offerings just received:

2022 chardonnay Aequorin | 750ml $210
2022 pinot noir Antikythera | 750ml $255

I’m interested to try these wines but these prices are pretty steep. Commentary on this thread last year seemed to have a lot more folks than not saying they were out … and these 2022 prices are +20%.

Are other folks still buyers at these prices?

I think the price increase is more like 10%. The prices I posted above were offered to legacy customers. I believe partially because they didn’t produce Pinot in 2020. That said, I have officially been caught up price wise. My pricing matches yours. I’m still a buyer this year because I genuinely love the wines, but I’m on the edge.

All of that aside, a lot of pinot purest love to hate these wines, but if you go into them without all the controversy and chatter, they are genuinely incredible. I tasted their last week and our Somm shared a fun little anecdote about the 2019 Ceras. It was opened for a group of growers at a Wilson & Daniels event last year. Aubert de Villaine was so taken aback by the purity of the wine that he called Maggie to let her know how beautiful he thought it was and to learn more about the vineyard it came from. She told him that it was a blend…
