An interesting article from Jancis Robinson about a recent comparative tasting of the white burgundies from Verget from 2002 onward, as well as a few reds too.
Fun short article

Thanks for sharing. Seems to be as inconclusive as I expected!
Well yes - it is bound to be inconclusive because there is no single perfect closure. In addition, what some may consider ‘aging well’ others may consider 'aging too slowly or quickly/.
I like the format in which they did this - it was as ‘blind’ as possible which is necessary when comparing closures.
I’d love to see more of these tastings but alas I don’t think we will as too few producers decide to bottle under different closures (it’s not cost effective for small folks like me unfortunately). That said, I’m excited to share some of my 2014s and 2015s under screw cap as part of BD later this month!
Cheers!
Verget is one of the guffens brands, interesting results, seems better for reds than whites.
Are those prices accurate? She lists Verget Pouilly-Fuisse Les Combes VV at 360 per bottle. I swear that I paid like $70 for it a year ago?
Not sure I’m reading it the same way you are - things are not conclusive at all. I’d also be curious who the tasters were and what their ‘expectations’ were. It seemed in many cases, there was not a preference either way - and that may be a ‘win’ for the ‘less accepted’ screw caps, no?
Cheers
“ As for the red wines, the 17 tasters preferred the screwcapped version by quite a margin in all cases except the youngest, the 2016 Cepparello from Tuscany, for which the cork-stoppered version was preferred by eight votes to seven. (The next-youngest red was the 2010 Ségla from Bordeaux.) There were no Diams in the red line-up. They might have tipped things in cork’s favour.”
That seems if not definitive than suggesting that people preferred screw caps to natural cork?
Those are prices for 12 bottles, if you look closely at the top of that section.
