Anniversary Wine

Having read the thread about finding early vintages for a birthday celebration I have a related question. My wife and I married in 2013 and I’m looking for a wine that I can buy a half case/case that we can open for significant anniversaries. We reconnected (after a 17 year hiatus) in Healdsburg and enjoyed the wines in Dry Creek Valley. So I’m looking for something from that area that would age well. I was thinking perhaps something like Ridge Lytton Springs where I know next year I should be able to easily purchase the 2013 vintage.

I’m open to expanding into other areas of Sonoma if that makes it easier to find something that is both moderately easy to obtain and will age well. I considered something from Bedrock, like the Heritage, but my 2013 allocation wouldn’t have been enough bottles.

Any thoughts are much appreciated!

Ridge Montebello

Second vote for Ridge Montebello.

Piling on the Ridge Montebello bandwagon.

Yeah but monte bello isn’t from dry creek. I think Ridge Lytton Springs is a good choice. You might consider picking up a magnum or two for extended aging.

Also, Geyserville has the reputation for lasting even longer than Lytton Springs. Also not from Dry Creek but if you are willing to expand to Sonoma County more generally that would be my pick.

Montebello was definitely a possibility, though obviously not from quite the area I was thinking. It would be the most age worthy of all Ridge wines. Might have to do some convincing of the wife of the investment though. I’m sure I would get a bit of side eye at the cost

Thanks for the suggestion of Geyserville as well!

Ridge Montebello anyone? [wink.gif]

Passalacqua makes some nice cabs. Pedroncelli, Seghesio, Lambert Bridge all have fans here. Unti makes some more AFWE wines.

Can say that Ridge is probably your best bet.

How about a Rafanelli Zin (or cab), it is in Dry Creek Valley, and they make great wines – but you will have to get on their “list”.

Tony:

You can call Rafanelli and make an appointment to visit and taste. They will be releasing their 2013 Zin next spring, and the 2013 Cab the following spring. I also agree on those who mentioned Ridge Lytton Springs and Geyserville. Also, Dry Creek Winery has quite an assortment of reds, and I believe they also have large formats for sale.

Thanks,
Ed

Thanks everyone for the suggestions so far. I am keeping a list of potential places to visit this spring. Have not been to Rafanelli yet, so will work on getting an appointment next visit.
