Went up further in the mountains today and hit the mother lode at 10,700 feet. Filled all available bags and had to leave beautiful boletes everywhere. One of those special seasons such as I’ve not seen in 10 years. Picked more than 30 pounds of perfect, no worm or bug infested fungi. More diverse fungi than I’ve ever seen. They’re all over. Will dry these puppies and they’ll keep me for years.
Taking a bag over to Dick and Carollee Krueger.
man! looks awesome
These look awesome but more than just porcinis, correct?
I have sources that suggest such treasures are to be found in the Santa Cruz Mountains. I must investigate further.
OMG!
Not this time of year. Porcini show up around Northern California near Thanksgiving and in the Sierras in the spring.
Patrick - they are all porcini (boletus edulis) except for the few young hawk wings on the upper left.
Clearly I should not forage for shrooms without the supervision of someone who knows what they are doing.
Incredible. What’s the street value of 30lbs of pristine porcini?
