Airline Wine

Interesting and often funny take on Delta’s cellar in the sky:

Obviously a ton of effort was put into choosing wines for the ‘Winemaker Series’. Only a Master Somm could so cleverly amass that list.

My rule of thumb when flying - the whites are always easier to get down than the reds.

It raises a lot of fair points, and it’s a bit curious that the only elites that matter are in business/first class. Plenty of elite fliers are in coach, because that’s what their business pays for or that’s what they can afford, even though they fly a lot.

Anyway, at $7/bottle of terrible wine, one would think it possible to charge $8 for drinkable wine.

Etihad and Emirates both manage decent selections in all classes, DP 03 and Kirwan 98 last month.

Hint to the wise who travel business or first class: I recently tasted Künstler’s 2011 Weiß Erd Riesling EG – it’s pretty damn good and Lufthansa bought almost the entire production to serve in business or first class on some of its flights.

Vodka + Tomato Juice is easier than both.

i agree. the one caveat being, i find this applies more stringently to domestic flights. international flights can provide very nice options.
