Opened Sunday night as we had great take-out Chicken Parm (Jersey guy opened up down here after closing a two generation place off GSP up north) and this was disturbingly bad. Thin, sour, uninviting in any way, nearly a drain pour.
I stuck the cork back in reluctantly (what my son describes as my Jewish tendencies) and bottle went back in wine fridge. Busted it out yesterday to have with Canadian Filet lunch.
Now way heftier, robust cherries in nose and great taste, improved mouthfeel and all-in-all quite enjoyable.
I know nothing about this RDD wine. I can’t imagine it’s one of these modern, more approachable styles that folks here have written about.

That wine is made by German Blanco. He’s got a few projects around Spain, including Bierzo and Rioja. This Ribera is more in the new wave redefining Ribera from cooler parts of the DO, and way less oak. The project is in the village of La Aguilera, with really old vines.
I’ve had my issues with this producers wines. They’re a bit disjointed for my taste, a bit raw, and sometimes I think not well made (in particular his Bierzo). If you look at price point, and the underlying value of 70+ year old vines from Ribera, then this wine has its merits.
I’d much rather pay a bit more and buy Dominio del Aguila’s entry level, Picaro del Aguila which hails from the same village of La Aguilera… and I represent Aguila in Panama, so I’m biased

I can give an unbiased positive recommendation on the Aguila, but have only had the Riserva bottling.
