Has anyone heard of a new Napa project called Afterwords? I just received an allocation for their inaugural release, despite never having heard of them or signing up, to the best of my recollection. I was curious as to what’s the word on the street about it.
Ditto. They must be moving down their list as I just received the offer today, with no recollection of signing up either.
Same here. I got the unsolicited offer yesterday. Bought a 3 pack to give it a try. We’ll see.
I can only see the price of their Rose which is $42 - what are the prices on the other wines? Well respected winemaker and known sources but curious about this . . .
Cheers
It’s a self-described " ultra-small lot luxury wine brand, Afterwords". I don’t know if I’m in the minority, but it rubs me the wrong way when a producer describes itself as a “brand,” and especially as a “luxury brand”. Great winemaker though.
Got this too. From the email:
We are delighted to present our inaugural release of Afterwords Wines, skillfully crafted by our winemaker Julien Fayard. We have been working on this project for several years and we have the good fortune that our inaugural vintage is also one of the best in a decade.
The current release consists of the 2021 Afterwords - EPILOGUE, Cabernet Sauvignon, Sleeping Lady Vineyard, Yountville AVA and the 2021 Afterwords - NARRATIVE, a Cabernet/Merlot blend from the Calistoga & Coombsville AVAs. We have only produced 4 barrels of each wine, so quantities are very limited.
The 2021 EPILOGUE - ($185 - 750ML) Cabernet Sauvignon Sleeping Lady Vineyard stands tall as a paragon of elegance. Its texture is akin to silk, and its aroma delights the senses with subtlety. This delicately crafted wine exhibits finesse at its finest, gracefully showcasing a symphony of red and purplish berry fruit, accompanied by hints of lavender, spice, and mint, all masterfully delineated. In perfect harmony, opulence and vibrancy intertwine within this wine, presenting a contemporary interpretation of Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon.
The 2021 NARRATIVE - ($110 - 750ML) Proprietary Red Blend exudes a lavish and alluring character, drawing you in with its dark and inviting presence. Bursting with flavors, you’ll find notes of ripe black cherry, succulent plum, rich mocha, captivating spice, and a hint of licorice, all harmoniously dancing in this juicy and potent blend, predominantly based on Cabernet Sauvignon. The wine’s soft contours gracefully enhance its immediate appeal, making it a truly enticing experience from the very first sip.
Seems to be only available as a 3 pack of one Epilogue and two Narrative ($405).
and one of his wines was just on Last Bottle for like $50. This screams private equity bro who likes wine and found a solid marketing team and winemaker and decided to give it a whirl.
We have now learned the price for marketing consultants: $185 and $110 a bottle. These notes are such BS-- fancy words chosen according to some index of appealing terms and meant for a target market of people who buy based on puffery.
Completely agree. I passed on this for a number of reasons. Unsolicited. Too corporate PR. Too many other things I want to take a blind flyer at these prices.
Given that they’re still sending out offers four months after I received mine, I’m guessing they’re not getting a lot of takers.
They have a great winenmaker, but I think it’s just really hard to differentiate yourself without critic reviews, a stellar top to bottom team (e.g., Impensata), or a clear and great value proposition (e.g., your wines are priced lower than most other Napa producers with great track records).
Really curious where these wineries are getting their target mailing list from? Any thoughts out there?
Our digital footprint is vast; it would be hard to pinpoint the exact source. There are plenty of data aggregators out there they could buy an email list from. A google search on “email list wine” popped up quite a few, like this one: Wine Industry Email List | #1 Effective Contact List for Wine Lovers - Amerilist
Interesting . . .
Guess the marketing approach worked, ha! ![]()
Definitely let us know how they are!
I heard Todd is selling lists now unless you sign up for MC ![]()
On a serious note, i bet there are plenty of places to purchase lists of 'high-end wine enthusiasts '. ZoomInfo, or companies like this:
