Aero™ Wine Aerator by Brookstone

I received this as a gift and was wondering if anyone has experience with this product?

The directions say to insert the device into a bottle or glass of wine and press button to aerate for 30 seconds. It is powered by 2 AAA batteries.

If the point of aeration is to maximize the wine’s contact with air, does blowing air into the wine accomplish this objective in a faster way?

My (uninformed) opinion is this seems aggressive and might actually harm a wine that would not be in need of a vigorous decant (read: Mollydooker Shake!).

Mine is still in the box and I have not used it.

At least with this you can make pasta to go with your stubbornly closed wine…

Gimmick. Just like molly dooker wines in general.

Note: i am a curmudgeon about new fangled wine devices in general.

This is nothing new. There was a device years ago that did the same thing. Nearly identical except the top unit was not teardrop shaped, but a rectangular cube. It claimed to “age the wine 5 years”. Its effect wasn’t all that different than a Vinturi. It did soften the tannins a bit, and opened-up the bouquet some, but it really didn’t improve the wine. Decanting was still best, albeit, slower. In a pinch…

The other similar device is a straw. Insert into wine and blow. I have not done any blind trials on this.

Maybe you can foam milk for cappucinos with it.
