Acrylic Wineglasses

I know, I know, ha. But I need a set of Acrylic glasses for pool/hot tub. We’ve had few hiccups with visitors so want to take that off the table.

Any of you have suggestions for acrylics that will suffice in that environment? We are mostly Red drinkers.

Thanks!

Govinos are what I use for camping, boating. I wish they were larger, but they are the largest I know of.

Check your local HomeGoods. I found some really good ones there over the past 6 months - Bought a pair for Hollywood Bowl outings. They had several different sizes/styles. All were nicely made with minimal flash on the mold joints and quite thin rims. I was pretty impressed for acrylic glasses - cheap too.

Things seem to have changed. The largest Govino is 16 oz., but I just did a search and found one called Vivocci that is 20 oz.

I am familiar with Govino 16 oz and they are fine.

I have found, though, that tub and pool areas render my palate less discerning, so I kick it down a notch in wine quality!

I think you would like the Govino, they have easy hand feel.

I have small, Trumplike hands and they are quite secure.

Well, not that small, but I like the Glocks in SF size.

You might want to google" Tritan wine glasses". Tritan is the plastic material that has replaced Lexan (polycarbonate) in many food applications, including baby bottles. It has much superior impact resistance compared to acrylic.

It looks like there are a number of high end wine glasses made with Tritan.

Eric, I bet there aren’t too many of us on this board who know what plastic “flash” is. [cheers.gif]

For outside, I like the ‘indoor/outdoor’ glasses I snagged from Wine Enthusiast that are made from that Tritan material. If you’re not touching them, they look just like crystal glasses.

Only slight ‘negative’ worth mentioning is that they do have seams down the middle of both sides…but come on…theyre freaking outdoor glasses.

eeeeewww! [bye.gif]

I am such a snob…

Laughed out loud on that one…but that’s exactly why I even mentioned the seams

I’ll add a +1 for Govino. Stemless, seamless, just less.

We use Govino quite often for outdoor gatherings.

I’ve been looking for something like this as well and will take a look at Govino. Are they all stemless? I’d prefer a stem… If I’m going stemless I’d almost go with a glass tumble, as the lack of stem and not being paper thin goes a long way to reduce breakage, at least it seems that way.

Also checkout Tossware.

At first I thought you said Tosserware, a brand that would amuse the British board members.

Thanks! Will check these out

We molded school lunch trays out of Tritan. They withstood daily washing in commercial dishwashers with rinse temperatures of 200°F. Also didn’t craze or go hazy over time.

Good to know they offer both single stack and double stack hicap sizes. [berserker.gif]
