A WOW wine: 2007 Two Hands Cabernet Sauvignon Charlie's Patch (USA, California, Napa Valley)

  • 2007 Two Hands Cabernet Sauvignon Charlie’s Patch - USA, California, Napa Valley (4/7/2015)
Popped and poured to celebrate my son taking his USMLE Step I exam. He wanted his kind of wine, which is Scarecrow, but since I am a meanie and wouldn’t open a Scarecrow, I picked this. It is REALLY DELICIOUS. An incredible, outstanding wine. Extremely dark with red highlights around the edges. Nose is dark red fruit with plum. Palate still has tanins with red fruit, acidity and, in an odd way, a tiny touch of sweetness on the back of the palate. For a TRB wine, this is actually more sexy than brawny. There are tiny hints of other flavors, like a bit of chocolate, coffee and spice, that I am convinced will flower with some more age. Takes on additional red fruit flavors as it gets some air. Give it an hour or two decant. Long finish. This is no where near its peak. Space out the remaining seven bottles over the next decade or so. (95 pts.)

Good note, Jay. Funny, I have three of these standing in my cellar just waiting to be traded. I have always liked the 2006, 2005s & 2008s better. I still have a bunch of those too.

When they said they were scrapping the Charlie’s Patch joint venture I went out and bought all the 07 and 08 that I could find. I also have 5 bottles of the 08 left.

I could trade you some tasteless pinot for the '07s. I’ve got some 2006 Hospices Volnay but I can’t find price quotes on either side of the trade.

That’s cool. I don’t do old French wine in any form anywayz.
Anderson Valley newish? let’s talk.

Thanks for the note, Jay.

Congrats to your son for the milestone exam completion. Step 1 test is the most important test in medschool as it can open and close doors for your future course in medicine. The weeks leading up to it can be brutal with the amount of studying done. Hopefully he rocked it! What a great way to celebrate, though. I wish my dad would have done that for me!

I don’t have a lot . . . Sojourn, Rivers Marie, maybe some Ceritas.

I love all the wines from this venture including the Some Days are Diamonds series. Good stuff for the $$$. Too bad they couldn’t continue longer. A great team of TRB & Twelftree.
