From a Sam’s email today:

“When Stephen Tanzer gets excited about a wine, you would be wise to take notice. Mr. Tanzer is notorious for his VERY conservative wine reviews, and is very stingy when it comes to handing out 90-point scores (in comparison, the other wine critics look looser than drunken sailors on
shore leave).”

BTW, to make it clear, Sam’s apparently has no problem with quoting
scores from “looser” critics when the scores are favorable to the wines
they are trying to sell…

While Sams is just trying to sell wine I feel the same way about Tanzer. A WA 90 or a WS 90 and I say “Whatever” but a 90 pt score from Tanzer gets my attention.
