1999 Castello Banfi Brunello di Montalcino - Italy, Tuscany, Montalcino, Brunello di Montalcino (6/13/2009)
Popped and poured. Following the premature demise of the flawed Camigliano, I opened this so we could have something to drink with our homemade pizzas. A 1/8" clarity at the edge of the glass; red black in color. Roasted earth and dark, black secretive fruits on the nose. A smooth entry on the palate, with dried fruit, raisin, burnt tastes with some black fig and noticeable oak on the dry and slightly bitter finish. This would probably work better with boar or pig with some grease to the food than the pizzas. Good at this point. -

This had the tightest cork I’ve ever had to remove. Took two corkscrews. Opened and decanted 45 minutes before pouring a glass. Raisins on the nose. Sharp bitter attack with no finish and getting worse. I don’t know what the problem is, but it isn’t pretty. NR (flawed)
