I’m now taking monthly stats (suggested by our very own Jay Selman), and thought some of you might like to know, so I’ll update this thread monthly.
Dates are roughly the end of the month, taken on the 29th to include even the short months…
July 23:
Total posts 105456 Total topics 7486 Total members 1199
Aug 29:
Total posts 127291 Total topics 9040 Total members 1373
August had roughly 628 posts per day average (not bad for being ‘down’ for about a week!), and 44 new topics per day average, along with an increase of 174 new Berserkers.
Maybe make a sticker of it somewhere, especially if we could get the stats from previous months, we could do charts and graphs and stuff, I’m sure it would be of special appeal to our resident sexologist.
You might also want to show some percentages, such as:
20.7% more posts in August than in the previous month
20.7% more topics (not my fault if we have EXACTLY 14.08 posts per topic in both months)
14.5% more members (which goes to show that our current members are getting more and more active, since the progression of posts or topics outgrows the progression of members)
I’d like to, but it seems like too many stickies already, so I’ll just keep updating this thread, which will bring it back at least on a monthly basis.
Our participation rate is quite high, actually, in a ‘per user’ basis, so you are correct to point that out, Guillaume. A forum can have huge membership, huge post count (just being around for many years will do that), but unless it’s ‘alive’ with new posts and content on a ‘per user’ basis, it’s dead or dying.
Some interesting comparison stats, stuff I just checked out today:
Registered Users Online (Currently):
WineBerserkers - 137 (which is our running average during the day)
WineSpectator - 33
WineLibrary - site is down (will check later, but it’s likely high)
Wine Lovers - 19
Wine Web - 0
VinoCellar - 18
Mark Squires’ on eRobertParker - not listed (I believe it used to be shown, but no longer)
WCWN - 10
The Berserker Clan is still growing - even through the holidays!
Nov 28:
Total posts 180,057 Total topics 13,418 Total members 1718
Dec 26:
Total posts 197,824 Total topics 14,752 Total members 1803
16,282 ‘absolute new visitors’ (a new record) since Nov. 26, 92,382 visits (another new record), 8.88 average pageviews (another record), and an average time on site of 11:25 per user (yes, another record).
Most miraculous of all is that it continues to GROW and GROW! I expected the holidays to really slow things down, but we have all record numbers posted. I also would have expected that by this time, the rapid growth rate (while it has slowed in terms of number of new members per month - however, that’s the only one that has slowed) would have come to a halt, and this is technically past the ‘typical’ time when a forum would go stale, it’s newness and magic would wear off, and people would go back to their old haunts, as long as those old haunts exist. It didn’t happen here…
We’re coming up on one full year of operation (and stand by for a big announcement regarding this!) and we’re continuing to grow and develop. We’ve got so many wonderful online discussions and offline events. We’ve had war and peace amongst the membership.
