1989 Domaine Mme VIGOT Roland Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Petits Monts - France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru (2/7/2014)
A little funky at first but breathes up to show a little truffle development along with vibrant red fruits. It has some cardamom and aniseed spice on the nose and in the mouth and depth of flavour is good. It finishes with a touch of astringency. -
2005 Domaine des Comtes Lafon Meursault - France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault (2/7/2014)
One of the greatest village whites I have tasted. This was so fresh yet complex and engaging. It had a big whiff of smoke to the aroma along with some spice and ripe orchard fruits. It is a rich and powerful wine with real sappy density but is by no means heavy. It is flecked with minerals and there’s a strong line of grapefruit acidity. The finish is loaded with chalky dry extract and it is very long. Brilliant! -
2009 Philippe Pacalet Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Lavaux St. Jacques - France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru (2/7/2014)
Some smoky, sappy lift to the aroma along with sweet cherry aromas. The fruit is creamy in the mouth and there’s good volume coupled with excellent detail. It has a nice suggestion of mineral to the flavour profile and is a wine of good balance and harmony.
