A couple of cheeses from Whole Foods

As our fire heats up awaiting our longneck clams and Mediterranean Branzini we sampled some of the cheese I bought from Whole Foods today:

Prairie Fruit Farms Chevre: So bright, fresh, and a hint of natural sweetness. Not so creamy so it is very light and beautiful.

Jasper Hill Farm Winnimere: Amazing washed-rind cow’s milk cheese. Bold, nutty and slightly salty. Moderately pungent, but not overbearing. A gentleman of the washed-rind variety.

Both highly recommended. They were accompanied by some too-late breakfast radishes from our garden that are a bit too hot for my palate.

Fwiw, after communication with Jasper Hill Farm I have found out this was their best Winnimere ever, and that it is the end of the season. In that case I would seek this out asap. I will be going back to my local WFMI this weekend…

Thanks Matt. I’ll go tomorrow after golf.

Jasper Hill and “best ever” sounding good. Need some Russian River Beer too, so I’ll stop on my way to Costco tomorrow.

Thanks for the heads up, Matt. I’ll stop by my local tomorrow as well

golf, cheese and wine, what could be better. [cheers.gif]

Was anyone able to get some of the Winnimere? I’m curious what you thought about it. There was more of it at WF in Northbrook at last check.

BJ? newhere

Jasper Hill “Constant Bliss” is pretty great, too. I’ll look for some Winnimere this weekend

I assume you mean that as an addition as opposed to a replacement.

From the Jasper Hill website:

We named Constant Bliss after a revolutionary war scout killed in Greensboro by native Americans in 1781. He was guarding the Bayley Hazen Military Road with his compatriot Moses Sleeper, who died with him.

I have had a few variants of the Jasper Hill and never been disappointed one bit. I try to avoid the costs of Whole Foods, but that cheese is good across the board. Have you guys seen the vending machines they have been using in store as of late, its kind of crazy? What do you know about http://www.uselectit.com?
