A couple of Cazetiers

In the last week I opened a bottle of both the 2009 and 2010 Faiveley Gevrey Chambertin Les Cazetiers.

What a study in contrasts.

The 2009 was a thing of real beauty. Floral, perfumed enticing nose. Refined elegant and beautifully judged. Perfectly ripe but no hint of any overripeness, perfect acidity and very fine grained tannins. This was wide open and delicious and a wonderful tribute to the vintage, the house and the site. Extremely good for the modest price.

The 2010 in contrast was much more tannic and tough and unyielding and made me think of a 2005. It is impressive in terms of power and concentration and structure. It may be the better wine on another 10 years time, but I know which one I loved more. Drinking this made me think I was in a time warp and drinking one of the old school Faiveleys (pre 2007).

I’ve got a few of the 2009. Do you think it is ready Brodie? Or should one hang on a few years yet?

Hi Reece, based on my bottle, I would open one now. It was fantastic
