50 most remarkable red Burgundy Domaines according LRVF.

The La Revue de Vin de France (LRVF) established a list of 50 Domaines of red wine producers in the Cote des Nuits and Cote des Beaune they consider now as the most remarkable.

They have classified the Domaines in three categories ; exceptionels, the grand classic and the revelations. They visited all these Domaines last September and October, and tasted a selection of the 2010 vintage and sometimes older bottles.

Somewhat interesting to see Drouhin and Bouchard but no Jadot…

i hope that the prices of the domaines not included go down as a result. Many of my favorite wineries are not on this list and I would love to see reduced prices.

Surprised to see Confuron-Cotetidot in the top tier. Not often included amongst the “usual suspects”.

Is this a domaine that doesn’t see a lot of exposure to the US Market (where the majority of the board participants reside)?

+1, no Faiveley, no Cathiard.

Must ‘sign the petition’, when visiting the domaine this summer I was struck, surprised and delighted at the turn that Christophe has taken. And it truly showed in the 2010s which displayed great concentration but perhaps even more enunciated was the freshness and balance! Loved his line-up and think the change is laudable!

Really? Is that what caught your eye? RVF is well on its way to become the French equivalent of the Wine Speculator. [stirthepothal.gif]

I’m surprised to not see Bachelet. I think I would have Bachelet in the top tier. I think I could also make a case for Clavelier in one of the tiers although I imagine it might not show up on a lot of these lists. I wouldn’t have Lafon on the list at all.

This is the kind of list I can sink my teeth into. I wish I could get a top fifty list for every region, not just a couple in France.

I would think Roty could supplant a few on that list…

No Fourrier, Hudelot Noellat, Potel, Barthod, Chevillon either…well, you can’t have them all…

Strangely, the French have never cared about Fourrier, Barthod, or Chevillon.

It looks like a lot of Gevrey-Chambertin based producers or producers with significant holdings there did pretty well. The area certainly does not appear to have been overlooked.

I notice the absence of Barthod too. Others too.

I wonder about the breadth (producers) and depth of the inquiry (back vintages) that went into this.

It’s interesting anyway. [popcorn.gif]

A heavy lean towards the Cote de Nuits in the top 50, especially the trio of Gevrey, Morey and Chambolle, with a small smattering of Vosne in the top tier.

I’m guessing that they didn’t get to taste a lot of estates’ top wines eg no drouhin musigny listed but drouhin as a house is.

I can think of quite a few that I’d put above Vougeraie and Chanson (for my tastes)

Clos des Lambrays must have seen a DRAMATIC [miraculous!?] improvement in quality since the last tine I tasted it.

That’s getting out almost beyond the realm of the believable.

What is the last vintage you tasted?
This Domaine has been spot-on during the 2000s…
