2023 Scarecrow release (new vintage)

My 2022 3-pack just arrived today in Socal

I’ll miss the OWCs but IMO the new packaging seems well made

Just got the 23 offer in the mail. Price holds at $600

Would be crazy to raise it. I’m sure they thought for a half a minute about lowering the price. $600 seemed to be the break off point for a lot of people.

Comps - Lokoya, Bryant, Bond, Tusk, Dalla Valle Maya, Colgin IX, Abreu
Higher - Promontory, Harlan, SE, MM RTL (new)

Feel free to add to my list - surely not inclusive. Point is there are quite a few wines that hit the 600 range. Very few above that price AFAIK.

Think you hit on most of them. And most of them all sell at the secondary market for less (except maybe SE?).

Really struggle with the ‘value’ proposition of buying any of these wines at cost. Not faulting the wineries to be fair, just not for me anymore. Would rather spend extra to support smaller businesses that don’t cost an arm and a leg or if I want a bottle of expensive Napa cab (e.g., Lokoya/Colgin), can get it easily for 20-30% less through auctions (can see a good amount of 2013-2018 in the market).

With that being said, ironically I would be a buyer of Scarecrow for the 2023 vintage given its such a heralded year but alas since I skipped 2022 maybe they took me off the list.

I agree that old vintages of Abreu and Lokoya can be had for less on auction - even Bond, Promontory, and Bryant. Harlan not so much and certainly SE is at a premium still.

when is the release for this? I remember them emailing me several months back during the M’Etain release, but I’m blanking on the flagship one. TIA.

February 24 on my email.

2/24 here. Think I signed up for the list in 2023/4.

I may bite, if I don’t get any Roumier this year it is more likely as I will shift the $ here.

Wow thats a quick turn! I joined list in ‘19 and got first offer in ‘24 (for ‘21 vintage, and passed). So the list completely turned over. Wild

I purchased the 21 (first time buying) but not the 22, and I’ve received zero communication - neither email nor mail. Guess I did not make the list!

In addition to the current wine macro, I’m guessing it has something to do with the production amount.

2022 - 1340 cases
2023 - 1800 cases

Almost an increase of 35%.

How does it compare to pre-2022? I’m guessing 2022 was low due to the poor vintage.

my recollection is 1,600 in 2021

Gemini said about 2000

that is funny, Gemini here confirms 1,600 lol. apparently Ai is still working through kinks

After many years on the list, I had to pass last year. I informed them in advance and asked for clemency, given my seniority. I never heard a word, and haven’t received anything on this release.
I refuse to serve time in purgatory.
Buh bye.
