Greer just announced their 750ml format will be offered starting tomorrow, Tuesday, October 21st for one week. Rob Greer further noted that they have increased the price of each bottle from $225 to $250. A three pack will now be $750 instead of $675.
From Aaron Pott, our winemaker:
“This is perhaps the greatest vintage of our lifetime. The ideal combination of the perfect site and perfect conditions created a wine for the ages. Rich and dense with incredible freshness and balance. This should prove to be the best vintage of Greer to date.”
I am likely still a buyer just because I love these wines, and the vintage is supposed to be excellent. Just a bit of a shame that the price increased.
Yeah I think I’ll be bowing out this time around. Have enough Geer to last awhile and the price increase albeit they waited awhile to do it is the final dagger for me to bow out gracefully
I am skipping, but not due to the price increase, but mainly due to my age, Napa cabs being by far the biggest portion of my cellar, and changing tastes. I have Greer back to 2013 and love their wines. In fact, I bought the 2023 3L as a special bottle to open many many many years from now. As I have noted previously, Greer, Maybach, and Realm are my favorite producers of Napa cabs.
Was allocated 8 bottles, picked up 6. Price is not out-of-line at all for what comparable high-end Napa Cabs go for these days (whether we like it or not).
Plus several wineries I didn’t buy from are giving not-so-subtle hints that I won’t be seeing much '23 if I don’t pick up their lagging '22 offers. And to that, I say, “let me drink Greer”.
Curious as to why? I don’t disagree on your pricing comment (high-end Napa is ~$200+ these days) but its just that when you go on WS you can literally buy Greer at ~$200 for any vintage (13/18/19 included).
When I saw an offering for max 8 “units” I just assumed the unit in question was single bottles so I just turbo-clicked through the checkout without checking. Needless to say lesson learned.
Because if the price is reasonably close to retail I will pay a little bit more to support a winery, guarantee provenance, and get it sooner. Obviously this would have been an easier call at 6 bottles than 18 though.
I have almost done the same a couple of times - I was just giving you a hard time. I’m sure they would understand the error if you didn’t want to keep them all but like bracine said, not a bad wine or vintage to have in bulk. It’s one of my favorite NV bottles.
