2022 Lewelling Offering

Lewelling’s offering opened this morning on their 2022 regular and Wight selections.
$134 on their 2 pack.
Any thoughts?

I received an offer letter but no allocation. Is that typical for folks new to the list (in the last year)? I reached out to clarify and am waiting for a response.

I’m trying NOT to buy wine until BerserkerDay but this offer has tempted me for the days they’ve been sending them. I believe @Marshall_Gelb has ceased all buying other than Lewelling’s direct offers, because their prices are so ridiculously good for the product

I brought them up in another thread recently and someone said the wines were overripe?

How have these been drinking?

They definitely seem more ripe in the last several vintages and abv is now in the mid 15s vs I think mid-high 14s a decade ago. I like to keep some around for family members given the $ but even they have been inching up in price each year to the point where its basically the same as DiCo (different style I know) so I’ll be passing. Maybe I’ll Coravin a glass tonight to be sure…

Same as dico in regards to what?

Definitely riper than DICO but less than Myriad and Rivers Marie. This winery replaced Myriad for me and may soon replace Rivers Marie as prices continue to escalate.

Largest producer in my cellar.
Just got bigger.

My only concern is the 2022 vintage and the heat spike.

Got it.

Yep—didn’t take full allocation.

Always a buy for me.

I’m in again for a case.

So Eric…You aren’t concerned with the Labor Day heat spike on the 2022 vintage?

not really, I have faith in this producer.

Todd; Pretty close assessment! I did buy the Lewelling as I love the wine and the people involved. However, I did buy a bit less than usual but also picked up a few pairs for a dear friend. I still purchase a “few” other wines but much, much less than in the past.

Cheers!

This may have been me. I stopped buying after the 2019 vintage. The 18s and 19s I have are too ripe and out of balance for me and too much ABV, so have been struggling to drink them. I also stopped buying Myraid (and other Mike Smith produced wines) and Rivers Marie, as a point of reference. Although if I had to pick one of the above to drink, it would be Rivers Marie.

When drinking Napa/California these days, it’s typically Forman, Togni, Aaron Pott made wines / Greer, DiCostanzo, Spottswoode, Tidings, etc. Occasionally will also have Fairchild and Ovid.
