2022 Dujac Impressions + Back Vintages

Nice visit to Dujac yesterday. 2022 BM was the shocker of the vintage. Also surprised he served the Malconsorts after the BM, but then you taste and see why. It’s the most concentrated cuvée.

  • 2022 Domaine Dujac Clos St. Denis - France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos St. Denis Grand Cru (6/26/2024)
Very similar to the CdlR in weight, but not quite as much bright fruit. Jeremy's preference this vintage, but I preferred the CdlR.
  • 2022 Domaine Dujac Clos de la Roche - France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos de la Roche Grand Cru (6/26/2024)
Very nice, good depth and weight. Shows a bit better than the CSD today.
  • 2022 Domaine Dujac Bonnes Mares - France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Bonnes Mares Grand Cru (6/26/2024)
Amazing depth of flavor, with open fruit. A classic in the making.
  • 2022 Domaine Dujac Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Aux Malconsorts - France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru (6/26/2024)
Such power and grace. An amazing wine, very well done and will be fabulous in 15-20 years.
  • 2006 Domaine Dujac Clos St. Denis - France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos St. Denis Grand Cru (6/26/2024)
Small taste, blind. I called 06/07 even though they are very different, as I always get those two confused. Very open and ready to play.
  • 2005 Domaine Dujac Echezeaux - France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Echezeaux Grand Cru (6/26/2024)
Small taste, blind. Amazing wine and drinking extremely well. Very 2005, but actually open for business and has a purity of fruit. I called Ech. The perfect combination of Ech / Dujac / 2005, this wine has it all in spades.
  • 2002 Domaine Dujac Bonnes Mares - France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Bonnes Mares Grand Cru (6/26/2024)
Small taste, blind. Depth of development that seemed like it could be 97/98. Drinking absolutely fabulously and belies the typicality of BM being rustic and difficult to come around.

What a lovely visit. I tend to find the Malconsorts very composed and balanced and have often preferred it to the CSD and CDLR, especially when younger.
The Bonnes Mares can be quite brooding. I think I had a couple of bottles of ex cellar 96 that I drank too young!

Well that was his father. He’s making much more accessible BM these days. I think it’s my favorite BM out there now.

Righteo - need to crack open a more recent one then!!

I was surprised when Jeremy told me at an LA Paulee that the Malconsorts is often his best wine in a given vintage.

It’s very good; I think I like Roumier more, especially recently now that it’s more accessible. At La paulee someone poured 4 vintages from magnum and it was definitely nice, haven’t had anything younger than 19 though.

He prices it that way no doubt. Same price as Ech and just below the Clos.

No way Roumier is better than Dujac for me. The 17 Roumier was very good and more open but still needs decades. I would drink the Dujac 22 over Roumier 17 every day of the week right now.

I mean that’s great for you because the Dujac is a lot cheaper. I think you also like Dujac a lot more than me, it’s not my favorite producer.

Terrific tasting with Jeremy. The 2002 Bonnes Mares and 2005 Echezaux were great ways to end. LOVED the Clos de la Roche and Vosne Malconsorts from 2022. Brilliant wines!

Useful impressions thanks for posting. What is your overall impression of the 22s from Dujac, is it a strong vintage for them? What prior vintage (if any) does it remind you of? I’ve received a couple of offers and am on the fence regarding buying. Thanks.

At good prices, Dujac is never a bad buy. His 22s are charming and approachable, similar to 18 but better - less ripeness and more acidity. It’s not as good as the 19 to me, but better than 18 and earlier drinking than the monolithic 20s.

I’m seeing $700 for CSD and CdlR, $600 for Malconsorts and $390 for Gruenchers and Combottes. Good prices or pass?

Not bad but definitely good price for Malconsorts since he prices it the same as the Clos’.

One side note: When I later told Dianne his comment, she good naturedly said he was nuts.

Funny. I usually prefer the CSD and CdlR to the Malconsorts, and suspect that the RSV and BM would also be better but I rarely if ever taste those.

I tasted there a few weeks ago and was very impressed with the 22’s. CSD and CDLR both outstanding imo.
