I’ll make a long story as short as I can. I have a friend that wanted to start a pinot label and I wasn’t sure I wanted to make a pinot or start a new label, but I told him if I could find the right fruit, I’d let him know. Took 3-4 years but an opportunity at McDougall came up and we jumped. Life happens and in this case it happened and shortly after I committed to some fruit in 2023, the project was put on hold. Upside - couldn’t have possibly picked a better vintage (and the wine is beautiful), downside - it is a one-off bottling.

Maybe my favorite part however is the label. It is an art project my daughter did back in third grade (she’s in 5th now) that I always loved and this gave me the opportunity to use it.

Has this wine been offered to the mailing list yet?

Word on the street is March… :sunglasses:

Will - very cool, Project and Label!

Can you help us to better understand the style of Pinot please? I ask as there are so many ranges between Sonoma, Napa, Oregon. Whole Clusters, extraction, profile, etc.

Thank you in advance- very excited, big fan.

Thanks!

I’ve only ever made pinot as part of the Rivers-Marie team, so it would be safe to say that stylistically/philosophically it’s in that general universe. Open top fermenter, punchdowns 2x/day. 100% French oak, 2/7 barrels new (Remond). Where it differs, a little more stem inclusion (15%), longer elevage (bottled in December v. August) and further north in Sonoma Coast AVA.

Just bottled so it will likely be wonky for a bit, but if someone is in the area, let me know and we can walk through it together.

I haven’t seen much talk about the 23 Sonoma vintage on here – unbelievably great. It will rival 2021, which is a vintage I absolutely love.

Thanks Will- Sounds sublime. What was the pick date said differently how did you decide Brix/pick date comparison to what TRB or others in that realm would have done?

We’ve got a charity event at my place on 3/15. I’ll have the 2023 Kutch and William and Mary pinots from McDougall side by side. I’m interested to see how Jamie and Will interpreted the site.

I tasted this last week with Will. It’s a lighter style pinot, I think it’s true to form for Will. Not a big bruiser. Delicious. I’ll be buying.

I tried the Pinot out of barrel back in November and thought it was great - and I’m not a big CA PN buyer. Excellent purity of fruit without any cola notes.

Really looking forward to trying both of these. Cheers!

Looks like the offering is live for the Pinot if you log into your account. Hadn’t received an email yet but easy purchase from Will.

Looking forward to trying the W&M McDougall Pinot.
Will - Nice label - your daughter has talent.

Will try to get a sample taste at Falltacular - will be fun to try it against Jamie’s version (of which I have had many).
