2021 Scarecrow Release Protocol

One of my best friends who’s been buying since day one passed. He actually found out a few years back he didn’t love them as much as he used to and sold about 2 cases to one of the local resellers. The last 2 vintages he passed them to Gladstone but he sent them a message this year and never heard back so he’s done.

I think this comment just sunk my excitement for making the 3rd wave for Scarecrow this year. Now where can I find some more Montrose…

Sorry.
I bought my bottles for the equivalent of $1080 a six pack in the UK.

K&L has the 2016 available which is also superb, but more expensive but with four more years of cellaring. That would give you 10 bottles and half a glass for your $2200.

I don’t think anyone would take on a $2000 consignment with no seller fee unless you already have substantial sales history with them.

Minimums for no seller fee will vary by auction house and be somewhat subject to your relationship there and the wines in question. I.e. if you have a single bottle of DRC RC, you could probably get that ~$15-20k single bottle consignment taken with no fee as their legwork would be minimal. If you want to consign the same $15-20k worth of ~$100/bottle Barolo, that’s going to be much more legwork for the auction house and you may not be able to find one willing to take that at 0% seller fee.

Guessing there will be a lot of people passing this year. I’m sure they will still sell out…

I agree because there are lots who have waited so long they will jump at the chance to buy it. The question id ask is not will they buy it this year but will they still be buying it in 5 years? I think they are losing a lot of long term loyal buyers with the non stop price increases and eventually thats gonna catch up with them

100% agreed. I just got my first offering for the last one and purchased. Can’t say that I’m too excited about this release. In fact, the more I think about it, the more I can think of other things to spend $2k on compared to this release.

This, or just not spend the money on $600 bottles…

Yep, that’s what I’m thinking also

Guessing the take rate on the magnums wasn’t too high last week. I just got a reminder email for tomorrow’s go and was notified that with my purchase of one 3 pack I’d have the opportunity to purchase a magnum as well at $2400.

Since my wife and I purchased a new car this weekend I won’t be taking any of it however. I’m officially jumping off the Scarecrow train.

I think the fact that the usual secondary market buyers aren’t interested in buying allocations this year is telling.

yep. just checked that magnums have not sold out. SHOCKER!!!

Big surprise that Jeb gave it 100

Uh, yeah. You mean I can have a case of '12 CdC/Krug or 3 bottles of '21 Scarecrow? Hmm … which ever one shall I pick? Please excuse me as I ponder this question…

Got an email notification just now too.

So… anybody actually bought their allocation this year?

Wave 2 starts tomorrow, ouch 2400$ for a magnum.

Based on the last time I was unceremoniously booted from the list for passing, it appears that 5 years is the period that they’ll put you in time-out for…. giving you a chance to think about what you’ve done.

In case that helps anyone…

Truth!!!

Ouch $7200 for a 3 liter

I bought a three-pack
Passed on the big bottles and the wish list.
