BD16 purchase, a three pack vertical of 2020, 2021 and 2022. Figured I’d crack the senior bottle and see how Scherrer is doing lately. This producer helped shape my understanding of zin back in the ‘90s.
How are things now? Absolutely classic, textbook lovely, delicious Sonoma Zinfandel. One of those wines that, if you looked up Sonoma zin in the dictionary, you’d find this wine.
Pinot color. The old Gang of Pour would dub the fruit “zinberry” - that unique mixed berry quality of Sonoma zin. Gentle spicy wood, discrete. Then a medium/full body with tangy woodsy berry spice flavors. Fine tannin, mineral edge, this is lovely, fleshy but defined and well shaped Zinfandel. Was delicious with grilled chuck eye, as the label suggests it’s lovely now but I’m sure 5-10 years will be no problem. Highly recommended.

I bought a case of ‘20s on futures. They were smoking good from day 1 and we blew through 6 of them already. The rest are laying down for the long haul.

I purchased the 19, 20, and 21 O&M vines. I took them to my monthly supper club earlier this month, and everyone liked all three wines, but the 19 was the hit of the evening. I note on the website that the 19 is still available.

Very pleased to read this, as I finally re-upped my Scherrer OMV zin at BerserkerDay 16 - it used to be ever-present in my cellar and hasn’t been for a couple years, so I changed that!

It’s hard to beat Scherrer wines. Nice people, nice wine, nice prices, nice customer service.

The futures is where it’s at. Really great offer Fred continues to offer annually.

I’ll join in, I had the 18 out of a 375 last week. Every time I have this wine I sit there and think “man this is just so good!”

Opened my '17 a week or so ago, and it was nothing short of wonderful. Opened one of my two '18s this past week and it was . . . corked. Was bummed, but hopefully my remaining one will be sound. I picked up the three-vintage ('20, '21 and '22) BD16 offer, and added two-each of the '17, '18 and '19. That 2017 OMV I opened took me back in time three decades or so.

I literally think this every time I have a Scherrer Zin. Desert-island stuff.

Terry,
I’ll replace/credit for the corked bottle. Glad you enjoy the wines.
