2020 Patrick Piuze

  • 2020 Patrick Piuze Chablis 1er Cru Vaulorent Quatre Chemins - France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis 1er Cru
Served single blind. Slightly peachy, with a slightly odd 餡こ note on the midpalate that did fortunately dissipate at the end. Reasonably ripe, with a moderately oily texture and a slight hint of herbaceous greenness on the finish. Shows more and more fruit sweetness with air. My 3rd, group's 1st. (93 points)
  • 2020 Patrick Piuze Chablis Terroir de Fyé - France, Burgundy, Chablis
Served single blind. A bit of reductive smokiness on the nose here. Quite light in texture with some smokiness and again a weird dried bean note that dissipates with air. Moderate acidity and fairly balanced, but not too complex. My 6th, group's 9th. (88 points)
  • 2020 Patrick Piuze Chablis Coteau de Fontenay - France, Burgundy, Chablis
Served single blind. Great nose, with an intense and smoky note, with relatively good density and power. Some electric acidity, but this feels a little on the green and herbal side. Not very weighty overall. My 4th, group's 10th. (88 points)
  • 2020 Patrick Piuze Chablis 1er Cru Les Sechets - France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis 1er Cru
Served single blind. A mild Sharpie marker note on the nose here. Again slightly reductive. Relative to the wines around it a slightly bigger texture, but still clearly of high acidity. Fresh and bright with a sour pear profile that I quite enjoy and some lime that renders this quite tart. My 2nd, group's 6th. (90 points)
  • 2020 Patrick Piuze Chablis Coteau de Fontenay - France, Burgundy, Chablis
Served single blind. Slight beeswax note on the nose but clearly a bit underripe, showing a bit of a green streak and some grassy flavours as well. Lean and thin and quite simple, but drinkable enough. My 9th, group's 12th. (88 points)
  • 2020 Patrick Piuze Chablis 1er Cru Montmains - France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis 1er Cru
Served single blind. Excellent aromatic intensity, with a slight waxiness and clearly some good fruit weight here. On the palate, this has a distinctly chalky texture and good breadth to counterbalance the acidity. I'm a huge fan of this -- it drinks like a straight-up textbook Chablis to me right now. My 1st, group's 7th. (93 points)
  • 2020 Patrick Piuze Chablis Grand Cru Valmur - France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis Grand Cru
Served single blind. Weird dichotomy here with a very oily/beeswax, almost a slight flor thing going on. On the palate, this has some sugar snap peas greenness, but also some of the sweetness. A bit of astringency on the finish, even though this clearly shows more weight. Clearly a higher-tiered wine, even if I didn't like it as much. My 8th, group's 8th. (88 points)
  • 2020 Patrick Piuze Chablis Grand Cru Les Preuses - France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis Grand Cru
Served single blind. My least favourite of the lineup. This was angular and jutting, high-toned malic, and quite green and lean. Overall, this also felt quite hollow to me and it just didn't seem to come together for my taste at all. My 12th, group's 4th. (85 points)
  • 2020 Patrick Piuze Chablis Terroir de Fleys - France, Burgundy, Chablis
Served single blind. A touch of smoky reduction on the nose. Slightly lean and grassy, but surprisingly good weight for the greenness that this manifests. A bit simplistic, even though it does have more weight. My 7th, group's 5th. (88 points)
  • 2020 Patrick Piuze Chablis Coteau de Fontenay - France, Burgundy, Chablis
Served single blind. A bit of sweet, candied pineapple on the nose, with reasonable intensity on the nose. Somewhat sedate and mild, and feels moderately oily. Drinks very nicely right now, even if it isn't the most complex. My 5th, group's 2nd. (88 points)
  • 2020 Patrick Piuze Chablis Grand Cru Blanchot - France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis Grand Cru
Served single blind. Crystalline fruit, with a distinct pear and lime note. This feels like it has a bit light on flavour versus the amount of alcoholic weight it has; probably a higher-tiered wine, but a bit lacking in complexity at this young stage. My 10th, group's 3rd. (88 points)
  • 2020 Patrick Piuze Chablis 1er Cru Butteaux - France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis 1er Cru
Served single blind. Clearly one of the leanest wines in profile, with a distinct, pronounced green, herbal note. Simplistic. I guessed that this was one of the lower end, regional wines. My 11th, group's 11th. (88 points)
