Can anyone on here enlighten me on the new bottling offered by Vice Versa, Beatrix? It’s Cab Franc dominant, but I wanted opinions on its price tag for admission. I have/purchased many of their other offerings and they are spectacular.
Also wanted any knowledge on their Steltzner Old Vines offering as well.
There are other blocks. Realm makes a To Kalon cab franc, too. From Realm’s website: “The site is predominantly Cabernet Sauvignon with several rows of Cabernet Franc at its westernmost edge.”
Samantha from Vice Versa here. Just thought I would jump in and give you the information directly.
2019 Vice Versa Beckstoffer To Kalon Beatrix is a new wine for us which we are very excited about. The blend is 66% Cabernet Franc and 34% Cabernet Sauvignon, all from Beckstoffer To Kalon Vineyard, a very small production of 75 cases. Like mentioned, there is a small section in the Beckstoffer To Kalon vineyard part that is planted to Cabernet Franc. We are grateful to have been given a contract for a portion of it starting with the 2019 vintage thus this new wine/blend. The name is inspired by the song “Beatrix” by the Cocteau Twins (you guys might know that Patrice is a huge music fan) but also because Patrice’s granddaughter is named Beatrice so an hommage to her as well.
Damnit Samantha, you had to add another wine this year? Your 2019 portfolio might be one of, if not, the best (from barrel samples so caveat is there) lineup out there- and that is not something I would throw out there lightly. 3 barrels from MK & PM winecrushing artists with CF/C blend… I am sure it’s killer, I am in.
What’s the release plan? And why off cycle offering- Will this be released in lieu of 2020 vintage?
Are there tasting notes you are able to share yet?
I believe the plan is to release the Cab Franc/ Beatrix in lieu of 2020 from what I was told, but who knows! And yes the 19s are so majestic. Every 19 I have tried from VV has been epic.
Thank you all for the kind words and the interest.
The 2019 Beckstoffer To Kalon Beatrix will be included in our 2019 vintage Fall Offering with our Platt Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, Steltzner Vineyard Old Vines and Beckstoffer Georges III.
You may have noticed that some of our customers just recently received their Fall offer ahead of schedule. The reason for this is a new change to Florida sales tax. Effective July 1, 2021, Florida law will require us to collect and electronically remit sales tax of 6% on all transactions. We thought that our Florida customers would appreciate the early offering this year before the change. For everybody else, the offer will be sent in August as per usual schedule. Take note that all the 2019 wines will start shipping in late October for the cooler states, weather permitting.
We also have a new exciting wine from the 2019 vintage but we will only offer it next year, as Ryan said “in lieu of 2020 vintage”. More info to come in the next few months. Can’t wait to share with all of you.
Below is our tasting note for the 2019 Beckstoffer To Kalon Beatrix:
“A new addition to our portfolio, this exhilarating blend of Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon offers a seductive perfume of graphite, cassis, morrello cherries, wild blueberries, fine herbs, and rose petals. The palate boasts a silky-creamy texture bursting with perfectly ripe red and blue fruits, graphite, minerals, and a rich persistent finish. Zen and stunningly beautiful. Beatrix 2019 is our first expression of Cabernet Franc from this brilliant historic vineyard.”
