2019 DRC Corton @ $1400 on a Restaurant List

Heading to Moab next week and a steakhouse at a waypoint has this on the list. Seems a bit too good to be true, but I think I’ll call when they open to verify.

Not bad, but not great. They bought it for around $400.

Still good for a us restaurant list, well below us retail low.

From what I understand, Corton takes 30 years to be ready.

Drc Corton typically drinks well early.

DRC Corton is more DRC than Corton in my limited experience. I haven’t had it much because I’m usually a seller at the going market rates.

I’ve opened about 4-5 bottles in the last couple years including a couple 19; they are drinking well atm.

17 was terrific and giving a couple weeks ago, although that may be more vintage specific. 18 comparatively and expectedly primary and fruit dominant still, whereas the 17 displayed more aromatic complexity.

You are giving them far too much time to use google.

I wouldn’t call them until an hour before you show up. If they confirm … “I’ll be right over” :joy:

If it turns out they don’t have it (hope not, touch wood), for the same budget, you can drown your sorrow in a pretty nice Beaucastel (small) vertical.

I wouldn’t call.

So here’s the dilemma, I walk in sit down and it’s not a cheap steakhouse. Order wine and they don’t have it or won’t honor the price. I’m with my kids and don’t want to walk out or start some shit. If I was alone, gloves off.

Totally get it.

I’d go in, if on the menu order and confirm with server that it’s on the menu at the price, and I’m good. No way they overcharge after that. If they do, I’m okay with my kids learning how to handle that. If they say, “Not at that price,” I’d order something else; all good.

Totally get it. Dinner with the kids isn’t the time to go to war over a wine list. I’d enjoy the night as best I could and deal with it afterward.

I’d consider it a teaching moment for young future Berserkers. When in a wine shop, I catch my kid walking down the aisle saying “crap, crap, crap”. I’m so proud of her.

Does she also say she refuses to drink anything with a word in front of Montrachet unless it’s Le?

My guess is they will honor the price.

For sure they will sell the bottle if they have it, $1800-- on the table with tax and tip, not inexpensive.

Not to harp, but you can drink these for under 500€ in France if you know your way around.

Must be nice to have the inside scoop.
