They are very good wines. One of the first lists in Napa i jumped on decades ago but eventually dropped with price jumps and tiny maya allocations. Last year i was able to backfill excellent conditioned 97s and 01s of both the Reg and the Maya for 20% or more below current release. Seem like good people and i wish them well but at 53 and where it sits in the market it doesnt make sense for me to buy current release direct
Frankly, even at the $250 price point, the cab is a decent “value.” IMO, it’s one of the best in Napa, and there are countless other projects at the $250+ price point that don’t hold a candle to their estate cab. The Franc adds brightness and lift which is really a breath of fresh air compared to so many palate stomper high scoring cabs. It’s actually almost a “mini Maya” despite having opposite CS/CF dominance.
I’m in for 3 Maya and 6 Cab. I got a full case of the 18 cab after tasting it — haven’t tried 19 yet.
Is this for the 2019 vintage? There is a 2019 Tor VHR on winebid for $190 and the Melanson for $165. Even with the buyers premium that’s significantly less than those offer prices, and these come up for sale quite a bit on winebid. Seems like one that’s much better to pick up on the secondary market.
That’s the same split I ended up with. I passed on the 18 cab in favor of a six-pack of Maya, but kind of regret that now. Good thing DV is easy enough to backfill, historically!
Just got the release email. Seems like prices raised to $300 for the To Kalon and Crane and $450 for the Black Magic. Needless to say, would take Dalla Valle over TOR any day…
