2019 Ch. Mangot Todeschini Distique 12, St Emilion - a Leve-Kelley Venn Diagram Wine!

Alfert digs it, too! But I’m just some Florida country chump.

I think this is what @William_Kelley calls “contemporary Bordeaux”.

I guess I learned about this Château here on this website and decided to take a flyer and ordered a mixed case of various vintages plus this special bottling, that I cannot find for sale in the US anymore. Maybe some folks will be able to find it and post some links. It is a special Cuvee made by the Château comprised of 40% Cabernet Franc, 30% Cab Sauvignon and the remainder is Merlot. I noticed that @Jeff_Leve says the 2021 is 100% Franc, that’s cool.

This is a pretty powerful wine, but it has so many cool climate elements to it, that I’m digging it very much. Smoke mixed with florals. Cool mint mixed with dark chocolate. Herbs with liquor. Beautiful purity of black and red fruits, still quite primary of course. Excellent structure to this wine, both acids and tannins, really quite well balanced despite the scale. Chewy chalky tannins with a sweet and savory residue that coats and streaks the palate. Can see this wine pairing really well with a grilled ribeye. I’m having it after dinner, a salmon bowl with a mature white Burg. Finishing with this hits the spot.

This is new St Emilion done very well.

I liked this quite a bit more than the 85% Merlot driven Ch Mangot bottling.

Thanks for posting. I recently had the 22 Mangot and thought for the price it was a really strong value.

Where did you find this CF dominant blend?

I don’t know what WK likes, or not. But you… OMG, I almost fell out of my chair! There’s hope for you yet!:joy:

FWIW, the is aged entirely in foudres and amphora, now new oak. But, the blend changes yearly, or not, depending on their mood, and the vintage .

Not as good as the classic 1983 Gruaud Larose I had the night before!
