2019 Burgundy: "It Might Even Be That Millerandage Is The Key To The Whole Vintage"

Seems like a lot of similarities to 2002. Burgundy Hails a Great 2019 Vintage | Wine-Searcher News & Features

Why 2002? The article itself says “Ask growers for comparisons with other vintages, and they can’t agree. Maybe 2015? Not quite. Or 2009, 2010? They’d be the choice of Guillaume d’Angerville of Domaine Marquis d’Angerville. Stéphane Follin-Arbelet settles instead for 1947, which would floor most of us.” And others on WB have speculated various combos of 2017 + 2009/2015/2018.

Friends,

Could be that 2019 is, generally speaking, even a lot better than 20002. It is undeniable that since then lots of youngsters have stepped up making wines that are far superior than the ones made by their fathers/mothers (?). Names? Maxime Cheurlin outclasses everyone that went before him at G NOELLAT. Daughter Lamarche outshines her father, Vicomte liger Belair (very good even great in 2002) is now on top of his game. Charles Lachaux is on his way to becoming a super star. Duroché is trying to equal ROUSSEAU in Gevrey Chambertin. Moreau is becoming a household name in Chassagne. Charles Van Caneyt holds on to the classy wines often made by his grandfather but he is far more regular. And I forget so many names now. The BURGUNDY future is so bright. But, considering the prices, it is good to wear shades…
