We are thrilled to offer you the 2019 Blue Monster. This vintage not only one of the standout vintages of the decade but it also brought about our new beginning on Abreu’s Las Posadas Vineyard, sitting 1350ft above the valley floor on Howell Mountain.
The site is abundantly rocky, and when the Abreu family began planting the site, the rocks unearthed during planting were used to erect the wall that iconically borders the property.
Our block is situated on the higher perch of the property sloping down: Block C3. We only harvest Cabernet Sauvignon specifically from the interior of this block, as those vines best express the vision for Blue Monster.
100% Cabernet Sauvignon, aged in 100% new French Oak for 23 months.
Our wine is crafted by Lloyd Matthews.
Our Characteristics: Defined by black fruit, blue eucalyptus, graphite, licorice, smoldering earth, and leather. The tannins and structure are formidable, yet elegantly balanced by the lush texture.
Ready to enjoy now, but the promise of even greater rewards for those with the patience to let the Monster mature.
The 2019 vintage offered us a lower than expected yield from the inner part of the block. While the yield was lower, the fruit within was concentrated and showed very early signs on a stunning vintage and was thus confirmed on our final tasting before bottling.
Only 45 exceptional cases (540 bottles) of this vintage were bottled.
