Tasted at Carter this past weekend, and my overall impression was wow the 2018s are really fantastic!
Picked up bottles of the OG, La Verdad, La BAM, Los Compadres, and Carter.

Thanks for posting those on CT, very helpful. Looks like a good vintage for Carter. Will be grabbing OG and Verdad today and will decide on the rest over the next week or two. These tend to be very expensive releases for me.
Seems like THE CARTER and LA BAM are musts as well.
it is live got a bottle of OG and carter
got a couple of each of OG, Verdad, La Bam, and Carter + the 6 pack i got earlier. just think of all the de negoce’s i could have purchased…hahaha
The offer is live.
I got: Kalon OG, La BAM, Carter, and Coliseum. Very excited to try these… eventually.
Judging by the reviews of THE CARTER seems like that’s the best QPR at 165, not that there is a huge difference between 195 and 165. The wine just seems awesome from the people who have tasted it.
Placed small order of 1 each OG and La BAM. To keep the vertical going.
I’m in. Had already purchased 1 six pak and 2 GTO in the wood cases
added 3 more (in addition to 6 paks) OG, 2 La bam, 2 grand daddy, 1 3 kings, 3 la verdad, 2 los comprades, 2 carter
In for 2 OG’s
Added 3 OG, 3 La Verdad and 1 La BAM, Plus the 6 pack from earlier and the 2 GTOs I think I’m all Carter’d out for 2018
Last week I popped a 2017 OG in anticipation for this release, and it was extremely enjoyable (maybe not up to previous vintages) but still a high quality wine, and some of the best to come out of Napa in 2017 (94-96 points).
Due to the early buzz about the 2018 vintage, this year I ended up getting a case:
2018 Beckstoffer To Kalon ‘The O.G.’ Cabernet Sauvignon × 5
2018 ‘Carter’ Cabernet Sauvignon × 3
2018 Beckstoffer Las Piedras ‘La Verdad’ Cabernet Sauvignon × 1
2018 Fortuna Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon × 3
I’ll probably have to open a ‘Carter’ a week or two after receipt of shipment. Who knows, maybe I’ll go back and pick up a few more Fortuna’s and another La Verdad, but for now, I wanted to get my order in ASAP.
I went back and forth this morning and then got some intel from a friend. Decided to take the flyer on a GTO and 3x La Verdad. That taps the budget this vintage. I must mention, $31 for shipping these wines is not bad at all.
They use what has to be the heaviest possible bottles. Hurts on shipping for sure but anyone who’s ever tried the wines comments on them and that the wine must be good based on the bottle so I’d think that works for them.
Surprised this release is not more popular on here. I guess it’s early.
Agreed - friends I thought would have picked up a couple bottles are passing for now. I have MM, Di Costanzo and W&M left and then I’m done for the 2018 vintage. Has been an expensive year so far… I think you remove Covid, the market uncertainty, and everything else that is going on right now and you’d have seen more ppl buying…
FYI.
I didn’t receive the e mail, even though I’m registered. I’m thinking that if you’re not registered, you may be able to purchase today.
I met Mark Carter when we stayed at Carter House in 2001. He’s a nice guy. I’m looking forward to drinking these wines.
Love their wines but sitting out this year. Its killing me.
C19 has hit hard. Need to be responsible with my purchases when the cellar amply filled.
Agreed on the popularity of the release. I had initially expected it to be as frenzied as 2016, but I guess it isn’t so surprising that it hasn’t been. I myself bought less than I expected for very identifiable reasons.
I personally bought a lot during the beginning of the Covid crises when there were a fair amount of quarantine relief deals that were no brainers, so my initial budget was already blown up from those purchases. There are a lot of promising wines for 2018 so trying to spread it around as best I can. I also have a lot of Mike Smith 2018 wine on the way, so I saved up for other releases like River’s Marie. I am also trying to be more budget conscience since there is a fair amount of economic uncertainty and want to have the flexibility to pivot.
Can’t imagine I am alone with some of the points mentioned.
Maybe paying $175 plus a bottle in this economy?
