2016 white Bordeaux - terrific value

2016 Sainte Anne Domaine Du Bourdieu Entre-deux-Mers - made with organic grapes

Picked this up at the local store, never heard of it. The words 'Domaine Du Bourdieu are in fine gold print under the prominent name ‘Sainte Anne’ and I have no idea if there is any connection with the great, recently deceased Denis Dubourdieu, the paragon of White Bordeaux. In any case, this is really good.

Light to medium gold color. The aromas seem mostly Sauvignon Blanc with pleasant grassy notes over hints of lemon. The palate is medium in body and offers some richness, along with a faint touch of pear and fig that indicates a Semillon component. I wouldn’t be shocked to hear that there was some Muscadelle Bordelais as well. This offers very good balance, although it lacks the intensity and concentration of great white Bordeaux. A perfect accompaniment to a simple winter dinner of haddock. A minor Appellation that I know can produce excellence, normally I would expect to pay more for organic and also to pay more for E2M of this quality. This is stoopidly good for $13 and I will be picking up a few more, will probably hold one at least another few years. While really nice right now, it seems a little abrupt and young, and could actually improve. Rated 88.5, could improve a point or even two over the next 2+ years.

Always buy a few Marjosse for $9…great quaffers that deliver value.

Big fan of Picque Caillou’s White BDX…look out for it too Dan.
