2016 Adelsheim Chardonnay Staking Claim - USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley, Chehalem Mountains (12/18/2022)
Day 1: Like another vintage at a distributor tasting in MN so bought two of these on WineBid. Very nice indeed and very much my style. Flint, orange peel, minerals, sour apple and pear. While some oak there it is nicely integrated and not dominated. Excellent value for $29 with shipping to the house. 92 points
Day 2: This is Chablis like and scores are conservative for the quality of this wine. Flint, saline, orange peel, lemon, mild spices, sour apple and pear. Very clean and refreshing wine. Outstanding effort. 92 points
Recommendation: Buy this. Paid $29 a bottle with shipping. Great buy. (92 points)
To be fair your only style is buying / drinking wines that are under priced. I can’t argue with that philosophy.
When you know the market why I would pay more. When you can buy wines less than everyone seems to be paying no brainer. Big regret is I didn’t buy more of these.
Not the same bottle or vintage, but I had a terrible experience with the basic Adelsheim Chardonnay let’s say 2014/2015. Hardly recognizable as Chardonnay. Tasted like Riesling.
Anyway, if you think that this is a great bottle of Chardonnay, I have full confidence in suggesting any of the Willamette Valley Chardonnay bottles from our fine folks here like Goodfellow, Vincent, Walter Scott, Violin, etc. Add Cameron Dundee Hills Chardonnay, Crowley WV Chardonnay, etc.
I usually don’t like base bottles from most but the producers you mentioned work.
