My goodness, what a delicious wine. Tremendous balance of fruit and acidity, with a firm floral backbone. Day 1 I was digging it more and more with every sip.
Managed to save a glass and came back two days later - really strange development of dark chocolate and hazelnut on both the nose and palate. Like one of those Ritter chocolate hazelnut bars. Seriously, one of the most nutty (literally and figuratively) characteristics in a red I’ve ever experienced. The fruit is still there, though dialed back. Same with the floral notes. The nuttiness takes over. At the very tail end of the long finish it almost resembles the kind of nut flavors you find in certain sherry or even vin Jaune. Thoughts? What’s doing that??? Still enjoyable day 3, but really strange.
These wines are between $35-$50 retail one Seattle, I’ve wanted to try them but there’s too much Bojo I want to taste from 15’ without spending that much coin.
Brad nailed this wine. At least on night one, Drinking it now, and the balance is impeccable right out of the gate. So packed with drippy, juicy, fruit that has no flab to it and acid that gives life and lift.
Pure and clean and so drinkable.
I really like Julie’s wines. Across the board, they are in my wheelhouse.
I woulda say this is worth the asking price, though not a great buy in the context of Beaujolais.
Opened another bottle of this tonight. See my note above. Really dig this wine. Pure, drippy red fruit and a lifting acidity. It takes a little bit of air to get it to open up. Fun wine. Not deep, complex, nor worthy of introspection. Poundable.
i love her wines but it is a shame she had fermentation issues the past two vintages with her fleuries. the 2015 moulin a vent is fantastic though and manages to escape any surmaturité.
2014 and 2015. not sure about the yet to be released vintages. because the fermentation was stuck she blended all the parcels together to make the sex appeal. i have yet to try it but heard it’s not great. in 2014 a similar thing happened and she had to completely declassify the wine to vin de france with the simone c’est moi.
