2014 Thierry Allemand Cornas "Chaillot"

Had this with a perfectly prepared filet at dinner last night. Evolved significantly over the evening. Intensely dark fruited core with red fruited finish. Violets, spice and grill meats. Very long. Tannins give great structure but not hard at all. I love this producer. The Maitre’d was from Cornas and was very excited to see this ordered. Shared with the Somm and staff. All loved it too.

Awesome, I really think 14 is more solid of a vintage in Northern Rhône than many realize, perhaps lost in the hype of 15. A Juge 14 that I had not too long ago was stunning.

PS. Used to love Cafe Boulud in Palm Beach. I assume you were in NYC?

I’ll try to look past the ‘filet’ sacrilege, as I would for Bobby in this thread, as that’s a great wine. Mind if I ask how much it was on the list?

Todder, Kelley is clearly a person of refined taste! I’m pretty sure my wagyu last night was filet but allegedly I might have been three sheets to the wind, but I do recall you guys ragging on my lame looking caviar (not Fu’viar quality).

I never would rag on your caviar as I don’t pretend to be an expert in it. That was Fu and Jorge, who rag on everything. I WILL, however, rag on your damn filets every time you have them.

Great note. I like '14 too. I was originally pissed when a retailer delivered a 6-pack of '14 Xavier Gerard CR instead of the '15. But to a bottle it has been beautiful, if quite restrained.

Yup the 14s I have opened have been elegant lovely wines that will age very very well, 2014 NR and 2014 Burgundy are my kinda wines

That’s a nice gaffe. I liked the 13 and 14 so much and then couldn’t stand the 15 on release.

+1

Incidentally I’m right now drinking a btl of the controversial ‘15 Benetiere Cordeloux-ish, and it’s … not that good.

Such a shame as I really truly loved Benetiere

I had a bottle two weeks or so ago and did not like it at all. It actually tasted better immediately on release. I don’t know if we are dealing with imbalanced acids, bottle variation, or whatever.

It was Cafe Boulud Palm Beach in the Brazilian Court Hotel (nice old school hotel). $320 as I recall.

Damn, it is the old haunt. I haven’t been in a while but love that hotel and the whole area.

Took this long exposure last night in the courtyard. The landscaping is amazing.

It has deteriorated with air. No bueno.

Cheaper than current release (2017) Reynard [cry.gif]

Nice note, looking forward to my 2014 Allemand bottles in the future. Sadly, 2016 Allemand was my last year, price markup this vintage (2017) has just gotten to high for me.

Have you stayed at The Breakers? It’s the Grande Dame. I like the Chesterfield as well. And of course, the Boca Resort. That whole area must have been a gem during the height of the roaring ‘20s. We loving going there, but have a place a little up the coast in Vero Beach. I highly recommend all of them. I had a 12 week trial in Palm Beach once, practically lived on the Island for two years getting ready, taking depos, etc. the oasis was coming back to the hotel. Your picture is great, brings back memories.

Have stayed at The Breakers numerous times. Yes the Grand Dame. Being there by myself on business the BC is perfect. Stayed at the Chesterfield last year. Really long in the tooth. Not a level floor on the property. But we digress.

Spectrum has 2017 Reynard at 299 [snort.gif]

I knew someone would search WS-Pro, I paid $250 for the $2016’s and that was painful. Was offered $330 for the 2017 and said no thanks, not a fan of the price and vintage.
