Has anyone tasted the 2014 Scarecrow? If so, how does it compare to the 2013? Looking to purchase in the immediate interim but would like some additional background before purchasing.
Only reason why I ask is because early in 2016, RP rated it 91 in the Advocate then right before release it was rated a 100 pts in 2017. Curious to see why the sudden change in heart.
It’s not that far fetched when you take into account some fairly basic principles of quantum mechanics, namely quantum superposition, and inflationary growth. If one was to suppose that a wine is a perfect 100 points today, well then it is also factually accurate that the same wine exists as a perfect 110 pointer at the exact same time. This makes even more sense when you take into account bottle variation. Of course Mr. Parker may try one bottle that is perfection to him, but due to bottle variation, it is in fact probable that when I taste the wine, it’s more perfect to me, thus necessitating an even more perfect score.
Love Scarecrow. I have not had the 14 yet. These are not monster wines at all. The vineyard is one of the Grand Crus of California. The winemaking top notch. If you can afford it, it is a top wine. If you liked the prior vintages, I would think 14 in style is between 12 and 13.
Every winemaker in Napa thinks his or her Vineyard is one of the Grand Crus.
About 6-7 years ago I was just getting into wine and making zero money as a resident. I had heard of “cult Cabs” and was going to visit Napa. I emailed a bunch of wineries to ask if I could visit, including Scarecrow, Harlan, Drinkward Peschon, Hundred Acre. All said no or didn’t respond but Scarecrow and DP and Harlan at least put me on their mailing lists for wines I had no way of buying. After never buying M. Etain, I finally was given an offer for the 2014 Scarecrow and bought a 3-pack. I have no idea what it tastes like or when I should open it, if I ever open one. Very curious as to what i should be expecting.
I know. I buy to drink, not to sell. If tastes change and I’m stuck with wine I don’t think I’ll appreciate, maybe that’s another thing, but as someone who gets pissed off at the price of wine that was once affordable, I hesitate to support the speculative market that made it so.
