2014 PYCM Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Abbaye de Morgeot Cuvée Clement Emma

  • 2014 Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Abbaye de Morgeot Cuvée Clement Emma - France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru (5/13/2017)
    Color: Pale golden yellow
Scents: The nose on this is elusive and elegant in a way I have not encountered in a White Bug in quite some time. Scents of sea air, ocean spray, lemon, lime-aid, followed by a kiss of vanilla, nutmeg, and new oak.
Taste: Lime, yellow apple, pineapple, kiwi, and green apple all seem to race to a mid-palate explosion and it’s near impossible to figure out who the victor is in this battle of the palate.
Overall: This is a stellar bottle of wine…something that will probably really benefit from 5+ years in the cellar. It’s so lean and precise yet awash in elegance that it’s almost hard to wrap my mind around it. Light-medium body, high acidity, med+ fruit, and a long…LONG finish. Outstanding!!!
***NOTE: This was paired with Maine Lobster rolls…and had the perfect cut to balance the weight of the mayo, the sweetness of the lobster, and the toast of the bun.

How come people don’t/won’t post on Morey’s cheaper wines? (Bourgogne for instance)

I would if I bought some of them…but there’s limited space as I don’t have an actual cellar. So I buy the St. Aubin’s & tried splurging this year on this wine. I’m glad I did.

Me too. But I do have one bottle of the '13 Bourgogne Blanc. I’ll part a TN someday.
Thanks for posting; I splurged on this one too!

Cheers,
Warren

As great as this is…I do not plan to open another one for quite some time. Depending on how many you have…I’d err on the side of waiting with this wine. It’s lovely now…but it’s so VERY clear that there is a TON in reserve.

FWIW, I’ve mentioned in a couple of other threads his 2014 St Aubin La Pucelle, which I found to be a stunning wine, the best I’ve had from him at this price point (<$50 at release). Here good things about the 2015 as well.

It’s been a year…I still have a couple bottles left…so it was time to check in on this baby again.

A little more than a year since my last bottle and this is slowly creeping along. It’s a little more flush and a little more open…yet still leading with lemon and tart green apple on the palate. The finish is medium+ long, lean, and framed by brisk acidity. This has all the structure to age well, and pairs beautifully with the lobster roll tonight. Outstanding!!! (check back in 2020+)
