2014 Gargiulo 575 OVX

I have a tasting planned in Sept to visit Gargiulo, first timer. The two $75 tasting fees can be waived with a “respectable” purchase (ie $750). I tend to collect the big boy cabs, so want to know your thoughts on whether $250 a bottle will be worth it. If so, I’m in for a three pack. Is this wine on the level of Scarecrow, Hillside Select, or Plumpjack Reserve? Those are similar prices and I feel they have the QPR to justify the price. A friend of mine raves about 575 OVX and compares this wine to Scareming Eagle level.

I hate to burst your bubble, but no way are these wines worth what they charge. I’m not even sure these wines beat our Shafer One Point Five or regular Plumpjack Cab, let alone come any where close to the flagship wines. I get that there are fans of this winery out there (just like anywhere else), but I have really scratched my head over the price and quality of these wines. Given where the property is, it SHOULD be making the quality level of the wines you mention, and it’s just not even close.

Thanks for the candid remarks. Any other Oakville properties I should consider visiting that have awesome QPR for their top shelf cabs, besides Plumpjack and B Cellars?

Best QPR is Eastern Oakville is Riverain. Nickel & Nickel Tench not far behind. Still, both at $100+. Plenty of other options but QPR not so great.
