2014 and 2017 Bordeaux - recommendations for an “off-ish” vintage

I’ll pile on too. I have thoroughly enjoyed the 14s I’ve had and more and more realize I should have bought more — and still will be looking. Talbot (2x), Kirwan, Clinet and even humble Desmirails have been bottlings I’ve been very impressed with. Gruaud-Larose too.

of course, my fave from that vintage is the Pape Clement Blanc

Had a 2014 Calon Segur last night - took about two hours to become the complex, elegant wine I wanted, but it lived up my my expectations.

Another vote for VCC ‘14 as the wine of the vintage.

La Conseillante also worth buying at some of the discount prices I saw at the beginning of the year.

Has anyone opened a 2014 Carmes Haut Brion recently?

Weirdly, I have! I have a case of .375s that I’ve been working through. They are juuuuuust at the early drinking window for my taste. Some of them are more herbal (not vegetal) than others, but all have been a pleasure.

Awesome! I just discovered I have a case and was wondering whether I should pull it out. Shockingly, the wine I bough for $41 per is now $150!

Wow, that’s pretty cool that you bought a full case! I can’t recall whether I have four or six, but they are deep in storage.

Give 'em an hour to open up. The 375s were $25 each on release. Sigh.
