I recently purchased this directly from the winery, and opened it over the holidays. I was completely overwhelmed by what I can best describe as mesquite smoke aromas that I did not find remotely pleasant. I’ve tasted younger vintages (20 & 21) and was drawn to it because of the strong earthy aromatics, but I’ve never detected anything like this.
I’ve also perused the cellartracker TNs and no one mentions what I experienced.
I’m wondering if this is something that one expects to see in 10 y/o California PN? Could it be some kind of bottle defect? Am i just losing my mind and describing it inaccurately?
