2013 Allagash Fluxus

Color: Dark chocolate beer with a Khaki colored head
Smell: Leather, old railroad ties, bakers chocolate, brown sugar, smoke, and char
Taste: Malt, milk chocolate, coffee, with hints of nutmeg, clove, and a hint of citrus
Overall: Outstanding!! This is just such a lovely vision of what craft beer can be. A quick check of their website tells me this is a Porter. I’m fine with that. This may well be one of the best Porters I’ve had. Maybe the blood orange will show more in time but right now it appears to bring out mostly scents and flavors that lean more towards notes of spice and rustic charm. BUY IF YOU CAN FIND IT!!!

Picked up a bottle of this today.

Lucky you! Does it make it all the way out to Chicago?

Yep, my local shop had plenty today.

Well it’s flown off the shelves here and the Brewery is already sold out from their recent tours. I hope you like it as much as I do. I’m already wondering if the three bottles I have of this will be “enough”

I’m pretty sure they had it at the brewery when I was there last month but I was much more interested in picking up the Cerise (which may be my favorite beer ever). The Curieux (too much bourbon flavor for me) and 2013 Confluence are also available here. Have you tried the Confluence?

Yep, I’ve had it…and I think it’s a beer that needs 3+ years age before I’ll enjoy it. I am more of a fan of the Interlude. I’m with you on the Curieux…

As for the Cerise…it’s my least favorite of all the Coolships. You gotta try a Red…it blows the Cerise out of the water.

There was some discussion on another board about batch variation and that the latest batch they sold blew others away.

Could be…I bought my Cerise about 2-3 months ago. I know they release them a few times/year.

Yea…I have the earlier batch. They definately have ups & downs with the batches…but even when they’re not the best…they’re still better than any sour I’ve had that was made in the US

You prefer them over Russian River?

yep!!!

Another bottle down the gullet tonight. I think I’m finally starting to get “my fill” of this one. Should make aging the remaining few much easier!
