Fish or cut bait… Buy or acknowledge I already have more champagne than I’ll ever drink…
But is all of that Champagne better than 2012 Comtes?
Edit: the moment I posted that I felt dirty and ashamed of myself…
Clearly Samira is mad about the price jump…
He had kept her in a flat in Paris, and even agreed to pay her €2,470 monthly rent
That’s a broom closet in Paris. Pierre-Emmanuel could have done better.
She also accused him of forcing her into a life of champagne drinking
Really? You didn’t see that one coming?
In all seriousness, that just seems like a mess that shouldn’t have been made public and I hope some of the more serious allegations did not actually take place.
In!
down to 24 bottles. well done.
love spending other peoples’ money!
Gordon’s near Boston is offering 2012 CdC for $185.
$175 at Domaine. UK price is currently $145 which is a relatively small spread. Only 9 bottles available though.
145 USD is the best I’ve seen. I bought at 147 euros delivered and was quite happy about it.
A couple more bottles at Domaine at $175.
This thread and watching the 2012 price plummet, pains me. Bought at the top, February earlier this year, decent at the time $210/btl, now seeing tons of offers stateside in the $160-$170 range.
Never a bad idea to buy some early. Then you can just grab more if it drops to a better price.
Where are you seeing 160/170? Cheapest I can see is $190 from WHWC
Flickinger has them for $167, sold in 6 packs
Currently selling for $270 at the wine store at Eataly in Boston. I paid up for my first early purchases too. This was a tricky vintage to buy. It was released at a relatively low price, but very limited in supply. The price then skyrocketed in the secondary market only to come crashing down more recently as the real consumers of Comtes said no to the ask from the flippers. My guess is that when Taittinger realized their plan to drive prices up by limiting supply failed and there was still lots of ‘11 in the market, they decided to move the ‘12 and get that sold through before ‘13 hit the market. A few years from now, I think we will all be happy with ‘12/‘13 regardless of what we paid for it up until now.
With 12, 13 and then 14 being good vintages, they are likely going to have to cut the prices of the 2011s by a good bit.
The ‘13 has ruined me for purchasing other high end champagne. Any time I see something for $150 or more, I think “will I really enjoy that more than the 2013 Comtes I can get for $179?”
Also, re: regret over buying the 2012 at peak. At least you didn’t buy the 2008 Krug at peak. While I didn’t buy at the ridiculous release price, I bought it at what I thought was the price bottom, only to later discover deeper troughs. 1st world problems.
Do folks prefer the ‘12 or the ‘13
