2012 Michael Noellat Bourgogne

I have all but given up on Bourgognes as I have been disappointed about 90% of the time the last few years. I’ve been trying to find the floral and complex components of burgundy for an everyday drinker value and it has seemed to be impossible. I chalked it up to me trying to find wines that don’t exist anymore in the price range.

Well I have finally found one that delivered. I only bought it because down to earth wines and Robert panzer said in his offering “A gem of a Bourgogne rouge from a single parcel in the Croix Blanches lieu dit in the southern end of Vosne. Fantastic.” and for $20 I thought it was worth a final shot. Well I got the wine last night and popped and poured. Pretty floral, layered, beautiful taste, and some vosne character. Need I say more for $20? It definitely had some major tannins and needs time but it was truly more than good. I may actually give it something like a 91+.

Well I know a post Like this hurts my chances to getting more of this wine and future allocations but I wanted Robert to get the credit he obviously deserves and must work hard for. After seeing him slightly attacked in the 2013 burgundy thread I kinda felt bad for him after I’m sure he was traveling a long time from burgundy.

I purchased a case of 2012 Michel Noellat Clos de Vougeot from Robert, my first purchase from him. Very happy with the service and the wine. Highly recommended.

I was at the Domaine this spring and tasted through the whole range of 2012 (+ some 2011s) with my merchant friend. We were both completely blown away by the 2012 Bourgogne - clear, bright, precise, nice fruit, great balance, good structure. Everything and more you can expect from a Bourgogne. I also really liked the Grand Crus (the Echézeaux more than the Clos de Vougeot which seemed a bit more plump). Then again, we were both not really convinced of the Village wines (Nuits St. Georges, Vosne-Romanée, Chambolle-Musigny). The 1er Crus were good to really good, but not outstanding, in my view (Vosne Beaumonts a bit better than Suchots). But that Bourgogne really is a gem in my opinion as well.

Already out of stock…i’ve got another 8cs on reserve at the winery, so get it while the gettin’ is good.
Thanks for the props guys…
