2012 Hess Select Malbec Salta

After accidentally buying the 2015 Mendoza, I couldn’t stand it any more and on my last day in Florida went back to the supermarket for their last bottle of this. First class thinking!

Dark crimson color. The aromas have developed excellent secondary character. The blackberry is very pronounced, the floral violet notes still in evidence, and there is a beautiful roasted character. I swear, I could smell and taste the effect of the thin air letting strong sunlight hit the vine. The palate has lovely texture, with tannins almost completely resolved, nice opulence and enough balancing acidity. The flavors follow the aromas, but there is also a red cherry note, a hint of blueberry and an unusual but welcome note of something like cocoa or even coffee. Fully mature, rated 92, drink up if you are lucky enough to have or find one.
