2012 Habit Wine Co Chenin Blanc Jurassic Park Vyd Santa Ynez

Brought this to up to temp for about 30 min. Clear, beautiful light gold. The nose is deep & layered. Citrus, apple & grassy aromatics. Bright, crisp & welcoming. Still very generous layers of fruit with a saline/mineral counterpoint. Dare I say, balanced. A lively energetic take on Chenin Blanc.

One that as we were drinking it, everyone found enjoyable and a good match for the array of nibbles (olives, charcuterie, etc) we had out for our little Friday night kids’ Valentine’s Day gathering. For me, it just stuck with me how much I liked this wine. I’ve not had too many bottles of Chenin with that mineral streak & I thought it played out beautifully.

Jurassic Park’s Chenin Blanc vines were planted over 30 years ago. Quite a few producers are sourcing fruit from there and making some very good wines.

It’s pretty good stuff. There are many producers now making Chenin from the Jurassic Vineyard, including Habit (Jeff Fischer), Storm (Ernst makes the Habit wines for Jeff I believe), Birichino, Field Recordings, etc. I have a few of them, so one day will do a comparative tasting of them.

Tasted a barrel sample of a new one from Lo-Fi (Mike Roth’s new label) a few weeks ago too.

I just received some of Lo-Fi’s Red Rhone blend. Very excited about that one!

I’m a big fan of Jeff’s wines and Jeff as well. Really well made wines with low alcohol that are really enjoyable. Love his CB and his SB
