2001 Château d’Yquem - France, Bordeaux, Sauternais, Sauternes (6/27/2015)
This is a perfect wine in every way. Light and airy on the palate while demonstrating deeply pitched flavors of honey, coconut, and tropical fruit. Still showing incredible youth with many, many, great years of drinking ahead. (100 pts.) -
1986 Château Climens - France, Bordeaux, Sauternais, Barsac (6/27/2015)
Last tasted in October 2008 and it’s amazing how similar this showing is. Here is what I had to say six and a half years ago. This wine is in a great place right now. Baking spices and honey on the nose. Layered with spice, sweetness, and acidity on the finish. Over time the sweetness became more pronounced, but not overly so. A very enjoyable, complex, Sauternes. (95 pts.) -
1995 Taittinger Champagne Brut Blanc de Blancs Comtes de Champagne - France, Champagne (6/27/2015)
Very expressive toasty and nutty nose. Fine mouse and silky mouth feel. Graham cracker and citrus fruit profile. Classic Comptes. Very precise for a wine of 20 years. I would say this is at apogee now. (94 pts.) -
1999 Domaine Leflaive Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Pucelles - France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru (6/27/2015)
Popped and poured. Extremely youthful and fresh for a wine of 16 years. Excellent delineation and precision and drenched in citrus fruit and flint. Great stuff. (94 pts.) -
2009 Faiveley Corton-Clos des Cortons Faiveley - France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton Grand Cru (6/27/2015)
Popped and poured and this one was awesome from the word go. Deep fruit on the nose and palate while the palate was also buttressed by a distinct mineral, rocky goodness. Excellent. (94 pts.) -
2005 Adega Regional de Colares Colares Arenæ - Portugal, Lisboa, Colares (6/27/2015)
Massive concentrated old vine goodness yet not overly oily or unctuous. Fruit in the pear apple spectrum. A bit of underbrush to contrast the fruit. Very interesting drink. (91 pts.) -
2012 Domaine Fourrier Chambolle-Musigny Vieille Vigne - France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny (6/27/2015)
Popped and poured approximately one hour later. Expressive nose of spice and berry fruit. Seamless on the palate following through with additional spice and berry notes. Feminine wine. Punches way above above it’s weight in a similar way that the Gevrey VV does. (91 pts.) -
2012 Domaine Fourrier Morey St. Denis Clos Solon Vieille Vigne - France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Morey St. Denis (6/27/2015)
Sappy and fruit forward with some rocky elements in the background. Denser than the Chambolle Village. Equally good but more racy. (91 pts.) -
2005 Domaine Ramonet Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Champs Canet - France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru (6/27/2015)
Popped approximately an hour before drinking. Massive bottle stink that blew off in about 10 minutes. While this was an okay drink it was flabby and lacking precision. Fruit more on the tropical spectrum. Meh. (88 pts.) -
2012 Domaine Fourrier Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Gruenchers Vieille Vigne - France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru (6/27/2015)
Not giving very much on this night. Monolithic and closed down. Try again another time and/or try an extended decant. No rating given -
2012 Jean-Marie Fourrier Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Aux Echanges - France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru (6/27/2015)
Same as the Gruenchers. No score recorded.
