I know some of these are not exactly the lowest you can find from WS pro, but most of these prices are from the same retailers I bought the same wine from but in past vintages (i.e. 2010). For example, 2010 Jadot Clos Vougeot was $110 from my retailer, they are selling 2012’s now for $185! I just find the price jump from the “same” retailer quite high, most of them tell me its because the harvest was so small. I can’t even imagine what prices would be if the Euro was strong!!
This seems a bit like those $900 2009 Ch. D’Yquems that everybody was looking at and nobody buying. I expect that the 2012s that are going to sell out quickly are already sold out, but you’re going to see lower prices on those that are still out there in quantity.
I’m sorry for you guys, but a lot of this is not the producers it is your retailers (I know, nothing you can do about it). Lambrays is the only “producer” to raise prices here in line with the US hike, LVMH has done a crack job of ratcheting prices.
I was offered Jadot’s 2013 CdV for $109. The 2012 is $119. Bochard’s 2012 Jesus is $74. Faiveley’s 2012 Corton is $132.
These are largely the same as the 2009, 2010 and 2011. Last time price moved was 2008 - 2009 but it must be noted that 1) the 2008’s were much less than the 2007’s and 2) you can still by the 2008’s for a huge discount.
Yes your prices for “2012 Burgundy” are correct but it needs to be stressed that, in most cases, it is the prices for the 2012 US Retailers.
Ha, at 59, this is a great time to stop buying most new releases! I’ll, only, be in the market for some Bourgogne and possibly under the radar villages.
Thanks Joel. I have the same opinion about prices but just haven’t made the effort to look at specific prices from one year to the next. One strategy I’ve resolved is to no longer chase verticals. As has been said hundreds of times on this board that are still good prices to be found if you look at less sought after producers or vintages. And I don’t think you necessarily will be compromising in quality in many cases.
I bought magnums of the 2012 Jadot Clos Vougeot for $155 - MAGNUMS. Mags of both the 2011 and 2010 for $140. 2010 750s were $80 each when I bought.
Lower pricing is coming due to the euro from retailers who decide not to treat their customers like fools, but, seriously, why are you sticking with these folks?
